The Plantation

Restaurant

Located in a planter’s house directly on the beach, The Plantation is situated in a spectacular setting, with tables just a few metres away from the ocean.

Romantic and intimate vibe. Known as one of the island’s favourites, The Plantation is very often fully booked so reserve your table well in advance. Although the restaurant has its own driveway this seems to be permanently locked, so park in the car park at The Residence Hotel and walk through the jasmine scented gardens to the restaurant. Mauritian cooking classes are also available at certain times of the year.

Set within an old planter’s house with original brickwork still intact. Small indoor area has five or six tables but is only used on the very rare occasions when outdoors is unsuitable. The main focus of the restaurant is on the wood deck outside overlooking the Indian Ocean. Polished wood tables, candlelit and dressed with white linens in the evening, wicker chairs and stone steps leading down directly to the beach. Large white umbrellas provide shade during the day, with blinds being lowered in the evening if the wind becomes too blustery.

Creole, seafood and Asian influences. At lunch time the menu has a selection of pizzas, burgers and sandwiches alongside more exotic choices. In the evening the menu is decidedly more Asian and Creole plus twice a week, there is a themed buffet, the most popular of which is the seafood buffet, complete with entertainment.

Best to book one of the six tables directly overlooking the beach on the outdoor terrace.

Location: At The Residence Hotel on the east coast of the island
