Le Barachois

Restaurant

Nature is the décor at Le Barachois. Surrounded by mangroves and the Indian Ocean with fish leaping out of the water, the five white canopied gazebos have teak floor, candle lit tables dressed in fine white linens and incredible views with amazing sunsets behind Bambou mountain. Should you feel chilly, waiters will bring a choice of pashminas for you to choose a colour to coordinate with your outfit.

Just before you reach Le Barachois is the Floating Bar, attached to the walkway by teak gangplank. Ideal for pre dinner cocktail. Chilled ambience with relaxing music and natures sounds from the lagoon. Extensive cocktail list plus good choice of champagnes. Open every day from 6 pm makes this a great place for a sunset cocktail.

Fresh locally caught fish and seafood are the main ingredients on the menu with the most popular dishes being Faye Faye crab, giant shrimp and locally caught lobster. Le Barachois has two highly regarded chefs – Sobat Singh from India and Mauritian Guillano Dubois, who serve dishes prepared either in true Mauritian style with herbs and spices from the island or with Indian spices to give a taste of the east.

Great choice of wines from around the world. The wine cellar at Le Prince Maurice boasts 15,000 bottles. Give yourself plenty of time to peruse the list of wines chosen for Le Barachois restaurant. At 6pm every day Sommelier Jérôme Carlier and his team give you the opportunity to visit the wine cellar followed by a wine tasting. Reservations are a must.

With only four tables per gazebo, all tables are a good choice. We like the fact that although the gazebos could take more tables, management have kept it to a maximum of four to give a very intimate and romantic feel.

Location:  in the Constance Prince Maurice in Poste Flacq on the North East coast of the island
