Le Cafe des Arts
Restaurant
A fusion of fine art and dining
Le Café des Arts aspires to combine art and gastronomy in the same way the different cultures of Mauritius grew together back in the day. While infusing their menu with cultural and artistic value, they also include classic European dishes into their interpretation of traditional Mauritian cuisine. Art and creativity can be both seen on the plate and tasted in the dish; the restaurant is also part of an art gallery and a museum close by.
In the heart of Trou d’eau Douce, overlooking a large banyan tree that is over a hundred years old, the sugar mill has become the setting for a gourmet restaurant. In the evening the lights illuminate the stone building, enveloping it in a seductive atmosphere. Inside the paintings of Maniglier, Matisse’s last student, are revealed like the watermark of his life.
Draped in black damask on which large ceramic plates bearing the image of a painting are placed, the tables are set with art and flair. In a ballet worthy of a 5* hotel, you can delight in a wonderfully cooked lobster, a braised medallion of palm heart, a tuna tartare, or sea bream. As for fishr, the bourgeois is a dish fit for a king…..for one evening dinner feels like a journey to another place where the soul and roots of Mauritius swirl in an artistic surge like no other.
It is unique, magical and delicious
Location: Trou d’eau Douce
